Biography
J. A. Bellman was born in Stockholm to a German immigrant father. A musical virtuoso and poet in both Swedish and Latin, he sang in King Charles XI's choir as a youth. He studied at Uppsala University from 1678 to 1691, earning a Master of Arts. Appointed professor of Roman rhetoric and poetry in 1699, he served as vice-chancellor of the university in 1704. He died on the 28 November 1709.
