Biography
Justus Heurnius (1587–c. 1652) was a Dutch Reformed minister and missionary whose work marks the first major Protestant engagement with Chinese intellectual culture. After completing studies in medicine and theology, he was appointed to the Dutch East India Company (VOC) post in Batavia in 1624. He also conducted missionary work across the Indonesian archipelago, where he established mission schools. Heurnius died in Wijk bij Duurstede, the Netherlands, around 1652.
