Summary

This manuscript contains a translation of the Liji (Book of Rites) into Latin which was completed by Claude de Visdelou in 1710 and annotated by Jean-François Foucquet. In addition to the classical text (textus), it includes commentary (nota) and interpretation (interpretatio). Authorities cited in the commentary include Chim Hiven, Tamgani, Yam Fum Ko,and Sumgani.

The manuscript is divided into 21 sections. The first seventeen sections are extracts from the Liji. The next four sections are more detailed translations and interpretation of the following chapters:

  1. Jiao te sheng 郊特牲 (The single victim at the border sacrifices)
  2. Jifa 祭法 (The law of sacrifices)
  3. Jiyi 祭義 (The meaning of sacrifices)
  4. Jitong 祭統 (A Summary account of sacrifices).
